Hyderabad









Charminar

The major landmark in Hyderabad is the Charminar, a monument with four graceful minarets, built just two years after the founding of Hyderabad, by the founders of the city, according to local folklore to ward off the ravages of a deadly epidemic then spreading over the city. It is often referred to as the Arc of Triumph of the East. Its central structure soars to a height of 180 feet.
The old bazaar throbs with hectic trading of pearls, lac bangles and all other accessories fit for a bride.




Salar Jung Museum

The Salar Jung museum is the largest one-man collection of antiques in the world. The museum is named after Nawab Mir Tulab Ali Khan, Prime Minister of the Nizam and titled Salar Jung Bahadur(1853) who collected priceless gems of art wherever he travelled. His quest for art objects grew into a passion beginning the greatest private collection of objects of art like Persian carpets, Chinese porcelain, Japanese lacquer-ware, sculptures, jade, Aurangzeb's sword, daggers belonging to queen Nur Jehan and the Emperors Jehangir and Shah Jahan.

Mecca Mosque


The mosque lies 100 yards southwest of the Charminar. The mosque is said to have bricks brought from Mecca built into the central arch, hence the name. A romm in the courtyard is said to house sacred relics, one of which is the hair of the prophet.




Sri Venkateswara Temple(Birla Temple)


Built on the 280 feet high Kala Pahad overlooking the picturesque, Hussain Sagar this temple is popularly known as the Birla Mandir. The temple is built with 2000 tonnes of white marble. The magnificent architecture of the temple is a synthesis of North Indian 7 South Indian style. The main temple is a blend of the Khajuraho & Bodh Gaya of North Indian architecture.

The main deity is nine and half feet high made of granite brought from Phirangipuram in Guntur District.

Budda Statue - Tank Bund

The Hussain Sagar lake which links twin cities of Hyderabad and secunderabad was constructed in 1562 A.D. Later 33 statues of historical personage of Andhra Desha were placed along the bund of the lake. The well laid out Lumbini park located in the Buddha Purnima project has a musical fountain. The 16 metre tall, 350 tonne monolithic colossus rises high from the placid waters of the picturesque Hussainsagar lake. The statue of Lord Buddha is placed on the rock of Gibraltor in the middle of the Lake.




Hitech-city

The hi-tech city is built in a move to take Hyderabad into the field of information technology. Just miles away from the city, the hi-tech city structure in Madhapur named as cybertowers has became one of the beautiful icons of architecture.It was built in record time.This hi-tech city is also called as Cyberabad. Some of the leading multinational software firms have setup their offices in the Cybertowers. This hi-tech city has not only brought glory to Hyderabad but also to the entire nation.

Nehru Zoological Park
Sprawling across 300 lush green acres, the Nehru Zoological park is the biggest zoo in India with over 250 species. 2450 animals and birds are kept in natural environment. The lion safari park, the first in Asia, natural history museum, pre-historic
al animals park, nocturnal birds, a children park with a train ride are other impressive sights.

Golconda Fort

Before the city of Hyderabad was founded the Deccan was ruled form Golconda fort. Founded originally by the Kakatiya's in the 13th century the existing structure was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort of granite with walls and ramparts extending some 5 km in circumference. The fortress city within the walls was famous for the diamond trade and the Koh-I-noor diamond is said to have come from here. The historic Golconda fort lies 11 kms west of the city. The name originates from the Telugu words "Golla" and "Konda" - shepherd's hill. Later the fort was taken over by the Bahamani kings, subsequently passing to the Qutub Shahi's who help it from 1512 to 1687 AD. The first three Qutub Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda over a span of 62 years.
Famous features of Golconda include its system of acoustics, palaces, pactories, water supply system and the famous Rahban cannon, one of those used during the last seize of Golconda by Aurangazeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell. Andhara Pradesh Tourism's sound and light show in the evening reenacts the glory and grandeur of the Qutub Shahi dynasty.
